Lootcase: A Bollywood Comedy Gem
Lootcase packs the sheer brilliance of Kunal Khemu, Ranveer Shorey, Vijay Raaz, Rasika Duggal and Gajraj Rao into one. Perhaps this astounding and incomparable cast is what makes this movie so spectacular, and that too in a genre in which Bollywood regularly struggles with, and is almost always abysmal, be it Total Dhamaal or Golmaal Again.
The movie is one of the rare gems in comedy genre and proudly stands tall in front of all its competitors. Often, comedy movies lack a good plot in a bid to increase the humour segment, but Lootcase wonderfully manages both the plot and the humour. It succeeds effortlessly on these two counts. The movie is so beautifully made that you won’t realize how time passes, and stay engrossed in all of the casts’ antics.
Although everyone in this movie is marvellous, Kunal Khemu delivers an absolutely eye catching performance which places him a notch above the others and makes this movie undoubtedly the best performance of his career yet. The fact that he’s an underrated actor makes it even better.
Moving on to the plot, the film tells the story of a common man Nandan Kumar (Kunal Khemu) who comes across a suitcase containing wads of cash and doesn’t know who it belongs to. He then takes the suitcase home, completely unaware of the fact that the suitcase belongs to a big time MLA, and what follows is absolutely hilarious - one of the best comedy movies that I’ve watched in a while.
A great movie also has melodious songs, and Lootcase is no exception. The movie has lesser songs than your average Bollywood movie, but it becomes clear that the song makers prefer quality over quantity in this case. The songs are also placed in such a way that they don’t break the flow of the movie and neither do they seem to overextend the story in anyway.
The running time of the movie may be a bit too long for a comedy flick. I guess one could make it certainly slightly shorter. That being said, there isn’t a single instant in the movie where you might feel a bit of boredom creeping in, and this is one of the main strengths of the movie.
The film is, as I would like to say, immensely laughter provoking and it gives the viewers everything they would expect in a comedy movie helmed by awe inspiring performances and a good plot, steering the movie towards its unorthodox yet hysterical climax.
All in all, this movie is a must watch and completes its purpose of lightening your mood. It is the best possible showcase of real talent, with none of the actors being “pawns” of the gut-wrenching pandemic that is nepotism. Everything in the movie has been carried out with surprising perfection and this movie will make you extremely delighted, making you realize that there are still a lot of talented actors in our industry who deserve our encouragement, love and support.
